The RAW Film Festival RAW is a short film festival for new and emerging South African and Cape Town film talent. It’s also a social programme aimed at educating and inspiring South Africa’s youth. It’s the brainchild of Bulelani Mvotho, an activist, filmmaker and the founder of Snapshot Mobile Cinema.
Since being awarded a grant by the MTV Staying Alive Foundation, Snapshot’s RAW festival project has taken on a life of its own. At its heart is a competition which offers young, aspiring filmmakers a unique opportunity to make a 5 to 10 minutes long, socially relevant film under the guidance and mentorship of some of Cape Town’s most successful film, commercial and documentary directors and producers.
The films are now in pre-production and production. The final winning films will be showcased and screened in Cape Town townships in 2018, in the city and in other cities and festivals in South Africa.
